Understanding Perspective (As) Point of View

This class is being offered in February and April
Tuesday, Feb 5, 12, 19, 26 (4 sessions)   6:30pm - 8:30pm. Cost $80

Tuesday, Apr 8, 15, 22, 29 (4 sessions)   6:30pm - 8:30pm. Cost $80

Purpose: To increase awareness of one's place in space. Instructor will present classical perspective; intuitive spaces - imagery without/regardless of horizons; curved space/mental tricks - lines around us; immaterial/philosophical space(s) - illustrating concepts - more tricks. Materials: Drawing pad, straight edge ruler, lead pencil (1), colored pencils (3), erasers.

Wonderful World of Color – in Watercolor
Fri, 2/15,  9:30 a– 3:30 p     (1 day session)  Cost $70

Whether you are a beginner or more advanced student, you can benefit from this enjoyable workshop on the color wheel, color mixing, and the unique properties of watercolor.

Watercolor Classes - Beginning/Intermediate
Tues 2/12, 2/19, 2/26, 10a– 12:30 p     (3 sessions) Cost $70
These on-going watercolor classes include color mixing, glazing, washes and other basic watercolor techniques.  Right brain drawing exercises are used as a warm-up before each class to help students to see, draw and paint more freely.

Drawing and Painting Flowers in Watercolor
Fri 2/29, 9:30a – 3:30 p.      (1 day session) Cost $70

Banish winter and bring a splash of bright spring color into your life!  One week after the NW Flower and Garden Show we’ll blossom on paper.  Flowers are relaxing and meditative to draw and paint. 

MARCH Classes:

Drawing and Painting Trees and the Landscape
Fri 3/28, 9:30a – 3:30 p.    (1 day session) Cost $70

How do different trees grow?  What are the proportions of their branches like?  Is “green” really always green?  And how do you make green interesting, when there’s so much of it in the Northwest?  How do you mix Southwest greens?  Come explore the beauty of painting trees and remove some of the mystery.  Suitable for beginning/intermediate students.  Bring a sack lunch.  Supply list online, or contact instructor.

MAY Classes:

Four Feet and Fur—Painting Animals in Watercolor
Fri 5/16 and 5/23 9:30a – 3:30p.   Cost $70 for 1st session, $130 for both sessions.

Work from your own animal photos or resource material instructor provides for this two-part workshop.  Our focus will be on dogs and cats.  In Part I we’ll work with mixing fur colors, fur textures, glazing and discuss techniques for enlarging a photo and drawing out an animal, including use of a grid or light table.  In Part II we’ll continue the process, with more detailed work on animal features and fur details, and finishing your painting.  Instructor has a special love of animals and does animal portrait commissions.  Bring a sack lunch.  Supply list online, or contact instructor.

Watercolor Classes – Beginning/Intermediate

Sumi and Watercolor—Flower Painting Workshop
Fri 6/20, 9:30a – 3:30 p (l day session).    Cost $70

In this fun workshop we’ll use a stick dipped in sumi ink to draw and explore sumi ink and watercolor techniques on both a rice paper surface and on regular watercolor paper.  Enjoy a day of experimentation and spontaneous painting. Bring colorful flowers, if you have them, and a sack lunch.  Supply list online, or contact instructor.

Ken Smith

Draw the Figure    $160 for 12 sessions.

Classes are on Wednesday afternoons from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Session I: Aug 27, Sep 3, 10: Basic body proportions / head / torso.
Session II: Sep 17, 24, Oct 1: Hand / arm / shoulder.
Session III: Oct 8, 15, 22: Pelvis / leg / foot.
Session IV: Oct 29, Nov 5, 12: Draw from the live model.

This is figure drawing made easy with simple illustrations showing how to do basic drawings of the figure. Learn from instructor demonstrations, plus illustrations from a variety of excellent figure drawing books, photographs, and "McCoy" the life-size skeleton. We will draw from the live model for the last 3 weeks. Some drawing experience helpful, but not required.Supplies are basic - any drawing media (pencils, charcoal, marking pens, conte, etc.), a good eraser, and newsprint drawing pad (clip board optional.) 18" X 24" newsprint pad recommended.
