About the artist:
One of Darlene’s first memories, at age two, was drawing with a pencil in her
grandmother’s cookbook. She was fascinated that her thoughts could leave such
a beautiful silver trail. She never stopped drawing. The strength of her paintings
grows from this. Her current watercolor work centers upon the layering of the
natural world here on Earth and the layering of Time and Outer space. Grids sometimes
relate to Time and Motion while botanicals are used as a metaphor for vitality
and rebirth.
Darlene has been an artist and art teacher since graduating from
Ball State University in Indiana with a major in Art. At Michigan State University,
her graduate work emphasized Art History. As part of her continued growth, she
has attended workshops with many nationally known artists, and traveled throughout
Germany and Scandinavia. Darlene has over 35 years of teaching experience. All
the creative work, including original art, digital art and printing, is produced
by Darlene and/or her husband Fran, in their studio.
